Costa Brava self-catering
villas and apartment rentals
Pals is formed by three centres Pals, Els Masos de Pals and La Platja de Pals. Its history goes back over a thousand years and is a fascinating place to visit with diverse landscapes. For instance the name Pals come from the Latin for marshland “palus” and, indeed you may be surprised to discover that amongst the range of fruits and vegetables grown locally, rice from Pals has its own brand marque.
As you approach Pals you can’t miss the distinctive tower on the skyline. This keep is all that remains of the Castle of Pals which was demolished in 1478 and is known as the Tower of the Hours. The old district was badly damaged during the civil war but the mediaeval complex has been restored. It’s a very interesting place to visit with its cobbled streets and ancient stonework buildings. The view over the plain from the tower is wonderful.
Els Masos de Pals developed from an architecturally important group of farmhouses and has become an urban centre midway between the beach and the mediaeval village. The church, dating from the 18th century, is one of the outstanding features.
Platja de Pals is a quiet location with low-rise apartments and villas in residential areas along the beachfront and around the championship golf course. The long, sandy beach stretches north to L’Estartit and south towards Sa Riera where the typical rocky coves and dramatic coastal scenery are typical of the Costa Brava. There are shops, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance of all of the accommodation we advertise and several of our properties are close to the golf course.
