Route Planning:
If you’re driving to Spain and don’t have satellite navigation you will probably find www.viamichelin.com really helpful as a detailed route can be printed out. Michelin also publish a book with all of the motorways in France covered in great details. Not only do you have details of the petrol stations and tolls but you can also see all the smaller lay-bys which offer play areas for children. (Useful for those “Are we nearly there yet?” moments!
BY CAR: Most of our resorts are just over one hour's drive from the French border.
Wherever you choose to cross the Channel there is an excellent motorway network through France. It is possible to drive straight through from the channel ports but we advise clients to make a stopover in France. There are many choices of hotels which offer accommodation according to your budget. Clients have told us of the good deals they have received from Formula 1, Campanile, Ibis and Novotels where family rooms are available without too big a dent in the budget.
Petrol prices are slightly lower in France and Spain than in UK with the biggest savings made by drivers of diesel engine cars.
Airport Transfers
If you don't want to hire a car we can arrange transfers from Girona and Barcelona Airports at a very competitive price through one of our main property managers. An air-conditioned, nine seater minibus with DVD will collect you 24/7. For more details contact us on 01507 359359 or visit http://www.taxiestartit.com/ .
FLIGHTS:
The availability of cheap flights from regional airports has made the Costa Brava a popular destination. A number of low-cost airlines fly into both Girona and Barcelona. Girona is the nearest airport to all of our properties with only a 35 - 40 minute drive. Barcelona airport is about 1 hour and 45 minutes away by car. There are also flights to Perpignan which is about an hour and a half from L'Estartit / Pals.
Ryanair also fly to Perpignan in France which is only about 90 minutes away from our resorts.
Laws in force in Spain require all airlines to collect in advance the following information from all passengers travelling to Spain (including the Canaries and Belerics Island from the UK, IRELAND, MOROCCO AND SWITZERLAND
Passport information, including:
Barcelona Airport
TRAIN:
If you prefer not to fly and don't want to drive to the Costa Brava you can now take Eurostar to Paris and take the Ellipsos train which stops at Girona and Barcelona. Type "Ellipsos train" into Google to see details of operators.
This service has been highly recommended by several of our customers. It's not a cheap option but certainly a comfortable and relaxing journey.
