DIVING & SNORKELLING

The Medes Islands Marine Reserve is  off the coast by L'Estartit. This is one of the conservation areas which have excellent facilities for diving, snorkelling and boat enthusiasts. Use of this area is strictly controlled. Boat owners can only moor in designated areas and dropping anchor is forbidden.

There are many diving centres on the Costa Brava catering for absolute beginners and experienced sport divers.

 Keen snorkellers might  like to look at the website of the Snorkel centre in Llafranch which is at http://www.snorkel.net/.  Llafranch and Calella both have beaches where young snorkellers can easily by supervised . There are rock outcrops fringing the beach areas which give good vantage points for parents and interesting views for the young snorkellers!

Windsurfing and Kitesurfing 

On the Costa Brava the Bay of Rosas and the beach at Pals offer wide open beach space and professional tuition for beginners and more experienced surfers of all ages. 

There are also sailing schools located on these beaches and along the coastline where you can be taught to sail or hire a boat if you can already sail.  During the summer months a drive along the motorways  will show you boats of all shapes and sizes being towed to favourite locations. 

Try the thrill of sailing a catamaran which is spectacularly fast and easy to handle. Book a course for a couple of days tuition and then you'll find yourself saving up for your own!

 Kayaks 

Bring your own kayak or hire   from one of the specialised centres and then explore the coves and hidden areas that are only accessible from the sea.  There are guided excursions, short journeys  for absolute beginners, longer journeys for experts and courses designed to focus on specific kayaking skills.

 Boat Hire

Are you one of those people who can't just lay on the beach?  Do you want to see where all the boats are going?  If so, take the opportunity to hire a boat, pack a picnic and see all the great places which are inaccessible from the land.  Find the little coves which are perfect places for snorkelling or for picnics away from the crowds.   

L'Estartit has an Estacio Nautica centre which can provide a range of activities based in one centre for your convenience. Each centre must conform to the required standard of safety and tuition to be accepted within the organisation.
